On
february 5,
prime minister Narendra Modi will unveil a 216-foot statue of Hindu monk and social reformer Ramanujar in Hyderabad. In the 11th century, Ramanujar, a Hindu monk, spoke out against untouchability. Ramanujar, who was born in Sriperumbudur,
tamil Nadu, fought for global equality and untouchability. In Shamshabad, a suburb of Hyderabad, a 216-foot-tall monument of Ramanujar, one of the most significant Vaishnava priests, stands in the
heart of a 45-acre compound. The 'Statue of Equality,' as it is known, will be unveiled on
february 5 by
prime minister Modi.
The statue was built with donations from worshippers at a cost of roughly Rs 1,000 crore. The statue's sanctum sanctorum is built of 120 kilogrammes of
gold to honour Ramanujar's 120 years on this planet. On
february 13, President Ramnath Govind will open the inner chamber, which houses the sanctuary.
The
gold sanctum sanctorum is one of the world's highest seated statues, while the 216-foot outside statue is one of the world's tallest standing statues. It's a 'panchaloha' idol made of five metals:
gold, silver, copper, brass, and zinc, which is installed. The Ramanujar sculpture is inspired by Ramanujar's carved stone statues in the Melkot and Srirangam temples.
The 302-foot
buddha statue in
thailand is the world's tallest seated statue. The 216-foot Ramanujar statue will thereafter become the world's second largest statue. The 45-acre complex contains 108
divya Desams, Alvars, and
vishnu temples that have been described in
tamil monks' writings. A 54-foot-tall underground building entitled 'Bhadra Vedi,' a
