India is ready for the long haul for Ladakh
The settlement of the Ladakh LAC is a first step toward the restoration of bilateral ties with China. Any suggestion like parallel diplomacy in the 1980s—restoring economic relations while the military standoff in east Ladakh continues—is ruled out by the Modi government. This is because the PLAAF has strengthened its airbases with modern fighters and missile systems, and the PLA is fully deployed throughout the LAC.
The military situation on the LAC in the eastern sector was presented to Chinese President Xi jinping during his visit to Nyingchi in Arunachal Pradesh on July 23. Since the PLA's May 2020 attack against Galwan, Gogra-Hot Springs, and Pangong Tso, the PLA's military infrastructure in the sikkim and Arunachal regions has vastly increased. The Chinese people have been separated from the rest of the world in order to keep the true situation hidden.
