High Alert at Olympics Games, Violent Attack train Commuter Stabs 9
In Japan, violent crime is uncommon, and the incident comes while the country's capital is on high-security alert as it prepares to host the Olympic Games. The stabbings occurred aboard an evening train in Setagaya ward, which is located on the city's western outskirts.
One passenger was badly hurt in the incident on friday, according to NHK public television. According to emergency response personnel and public broadcaster NHK, a lady in her twenties suffered significant back injuries. The location is many kilometres (miles) away from the Olympic equestrian venue. According to the report, the guy ran with his knife but subsequently surrendered at a convenience shop.
Police arrested the 36-year-old man in another part of tokyo after he slashed and stabbed people in the attack at about 8:40 pm (1140 GMT) on friday on a train on the Odakyu Line in the western part of the city, media reported.
After the rail operator was notified, the train was brought to a Emergency stop, and a knife and a phone thought to belong to the suspect were discovered onboard.
