Apple Supplier Foxconn to Lease 900 Apartments in Bengaluru Township
Bengaluru, india — Foxconn, the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer and a major supplier for apple, is set to lease 900 apartments from BCD Group for a three-year term. These units will be situated in the BCD Emprasa township project in Hoskote, Bengaluru.
Details of the Lease
The apartments will accommodate Foxconn’s female engineering, technical, and support staff, as well as factory workers employed at the company's new iphone factory, which is located about 25 minutes from the township site. The factory, which Foxconn acquired land for last year, is positioned strategically near Kempegowda international Airport.
About BCD Emprasa
BCD Emprasa, previously known as Artha Emprasa, has been transformed under BCD Group’s ownership. The township, completed with an investment of Rs 250 crore, was rebranded by BCD Group in 2021. Angad Bedi, Managing director and Chairman of BCD Group, highlighted that the project is India’s first blue-collar girls-only dormitory, designed to house approximately 8,500 women.
The project spans 8 acres and includes 9 towers, each with 9 floors. The residential units, ranging from 700 to 800 square feet, are categorized as 1RK (Room-Kitchen) and 2RK apartments, with each unit accommodating 4 to 6 people.
Future Developments
Phase 2 of the project will see the introduction of plotted and villa developments under the name Ekam Homes, covering 15 acres. This phase is expected to launch by the end of the year.
Broader Impact
Foxconn’s business in india has surpassed $10 billion as of 2024, with the company investing $1.4 billion in the country. The decision to lease these apartments is part of Foxconn’s broader strategy to expand its manufacturing footprint in India.
In addition to Foxconn’s expansion, Jabil, a US-based electronics manufacturer and another apple supplier, is planning to establish a new plant in tamil Nadu. This plant, with an investment of approximately Rs 20 billion ($238.2 million), is expected to generate around 5,000 jobs.
