The American Gorilla Glass company came looking for us..!?
While india is emerging as the world's largest producer of smartphones and electronics, tamil Nadu plays a major role in this. Apart from this, tamil Nadu is the leader in India's electronics and smartphone exports over other states. In this way, while the 3 companies that manufacture the apple iphone in india, Foxconn, Pegatron, and Tata Electronics are in Chennai, in addition to these companies, the famous American Corning Inc., which manufactures display glass used in smartphones, is going to set up a new production base in Chennai.
Corning Inc., a major supplier of apple and the maker of famous Gorilla Glass in the US is set to invest around Rs 1,000 crore to set up a new manufacturing facility in tamil Nadu. Although many domestic and foreign companies who are planning to start business in tamil Nadu, or plan to expand their business, are eagerly invading Tier 2 and 3 cities, many leading companies are still reluctant to move beyond Tier 1 cities.

Corning Inc., which is coming to tamilnadu from America, is going to set up a new production site in Pillipakkam near Sriperumbudur on an area of about 25 acres. Sufficient land has been earmarked for expansion if production is to be expanded. Because Corning Inc.'s Gorilla Glass operates in a state-of-the-art, highly automated structure, the factory employs only 300 people. The arrival of US company Corning Inc. in tamil Nadu marks the entry of another apple supplier in India. With the growing number of companies currently making components for apple, in the next few years, everything from Apple's iphone to Mac laptops will be completely manufactured in india without any imports. Last September, the telangana government announced that US company Corning Inc would invest in their state. But now it has been reported that the company has chosen tamil Nadu. It has been reported that the official announcement will be made at the Global Investor Meet in January. The 25-acre manufacturing site to be set up at Pillipakkam, Sriperumbudur, will be jointly managed by US company Corning Inc. along with its indian partner Optiemus Infracom. Union minister Ashwini Vaishnava said in october that the factory would produce around 30 million Gorilla Glass per year.
