The deadline for filing income tax returns has been pushed up to march 15, 2022. The Ministry of Finance announced on tuesday that the deadline for filing income tax returns for the evaluation year 2021-22 had been extended "on evaluation of problems identified by taxpayers and stakeholders due to Covid and in electronic documents of numerous reports," according to a circular issued on Tuesday.
"The due period for submitting of Return of Income for the Assessment Year 2021-22, which was 30 november 2021 under sub-section (1) of section 139 of the Act, as prolonged to 31 december 2021 and 28 february 2022... is further prolonged to 15 march 2022," according to the circular. Many individuals and chartered accountants had claimed an adjustment of the deadline in the run-up to the previous december 31 deadline for filing income tax returns due to difficulties on the new income tax filing system.
Apart from Income Tax Returns, the Central Board of Direct Taxes of the Ministry of Finance has set a deadline for submitting various audit reports. The deadline has been pushed back to february 15, 2022. "The due period for producing a Report of Audit under any provision of the Income Tax Act for the preceding year 2020-21, which was 30th September, 2021... has been prolonged to 31st October, 2021 and 15th January, 2022... has been further stretched to 15th february, 2022," according to the circular.
