TATA abandons 942 acres Tea estate- Great loss...!

The Tata Group is set to lose ownership of its 942-acre tea estate in the Kodagu state of karnataka in a local court case.

With this court decision, the government of karnataka is preparing to hand over the 942 acres of tea estate under Tata control to the Forest Department.

Virajpet high court Judge lokesh MG dismissed Virajpet's petition against Tata coffee for turning the 942 - acre tea estate into a redeemed sagu, citing government data for 2008.
Forest DepartmentKudaku Deputy Commissioner PC Satheesha said that it has been confirmed that the land is not under any lease at present and the tea estate area is to be handed over to the Forest Department.

In april 2008, the Revenue Department amended 942 acres of land under the control of Tata coffee to agricultural land and declared it a forest area.

Tata was forced to cancel any of its agricultural and commercial activities in the region and was forced to cancel the old lease. Tata coffee has filed a lawsuit in the court seeking to have the land re-declared as arable land, which is currently being rejected.

 99 years only
Currently, 942 acres of tea estate has been declared a forest area and the lease period has been reduced from 999 years to 99 years. lokesh MG, senior judge of the Virajpet high court, also said that the matter should be settled in the Revenue court on appeal.
