240 Million More Men Than Women Use the Internet — The Digital Divide Is Still Massive

The internet has transformed modern life — education, jobs, banking, healthcare, communication, entertainment, even political power now flow through a screen. But while the world celebrates being “more connected than ever,” one brutal reality remains hidden beneath the numbers: hundreds of millions of women are still being left behind in the wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital age.

According to the latest data from DataReportal and the international Telecommunication Union (ITU), around 240 million more men than women use the internet globally.

The gap may sound small in percentages at first glance — 75.7% of men worldwide are connected compared to 70.7% of women — but when applied across billions of people, the difference becomes enormous. It represents millions of women with less access to education, fewer economic opportunities, weaker wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital literacy, and reduced participation in the modern economy.

And in some parts of the world, the divide becomes far more extreme.

The largest internet gender gaps are found across South Asia, Africa, and parts of the Middle East, where differences in connectivity can exceed 30 percentage points. In many communities, barriers go beyond infrastructure alone. Economic inequality, cultural restrictions, lower smartphone ownership among women, safety concerns, limited education, and social norms all contribute to women being digitally excluded.

The consequences are massive.

Without reliable internet access, women are more likely to miss out on online learning, remote work opportunities, wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital banking services, healthcare information, and participation in rapidly growing wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital economies. In a world increasingly powered by AI, e-commerce, and online services, lack of connectivity is no longer just a technology issue — it is a development issue, an economic issue, and in many cases, a gender equality issue.

What makes the problem even more alarming is that the wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital world itself is becoming more essential every year. Governments, schools, businesses, and financial systems are moving online faster than ever.

Which means that for millions of women still disconnected, the cost of exclusion is rising just as fast.
