India’s First Orbital AI Data Center to Launch by Year-End


India is set to launch its first private orbital AI data center in space by the end of 2026 throughNeevCloud and Agnikul Cosmos.


The announcement was made at the india AI Impact Summit 2026, where NeevCloud showcased a live model in Hall 4.


This initiative aims to reduce operational costs, accelerate data processing, and offer higher security during natural disasters compared to terrestrial data centers.


Faster and Cost-Effective Space-Based Data Centers


According to NeevCloud CEO narendra Sen, building a traditional data center on Earth takes around 24 months and is highly expensive.


Deploying the AI data center in space will be faster, more cost-effective, and free from land-based limitations.

The orbital center will be positioned at 250 km in lower Earth orbit, enabling ultra-fast data processing.


Data transfer between cities like delhi and mumbai currently takes 15–20 milliseconds on the ground, whereas space-based transmission could reduce this to just 2.5 milliseconds.


Enhanced Security Against Natural Disasters


Being located in orbit, the AI data center will be more secure and resilient against natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, or storms.


This ensures continuity of critical data operations and uninterrupted AI computations.


Indigenous technology and Shared Hardware


Instead of deploying a separate satellite, the upper stage of the rocket itself will serve as the data center platform.


This innovation reduces mission costs and prevents additional space debris, promoting sustainable space operations.


The mission will utilize a 3D-printed rocket, showcasing India’s indigenous space technology capabilities.


Pilot Project and Future Prospects


The first pilot launch of the orbital AI data center is planned by the end of 2026.


This pioneering project positions india as a global player in the integration of space and AI technologies.


The orbital data center is expected to transform data processing, enhance global AI infrastructure, and inspire future private-sector space initiatives.


By combining AI with space deployment, india aims to set a benchmark for innovative, cost-effective, and resilient technology solutions.
