Amazon has announced a fresh round of job cuts, with 16,000 employees set to be laid off, marking one of the largest workforce reductions in the company’s history. The announcement was made on wednesday by Beth Galetti, Senior Vice President at the e-commerce giant, through an official blog post.

In her statement, Galetti said the decision was part of Amazon’s ongoing efforts to streamline operations and adjust to changing economic conditions. She noted that the company had experienced rapid expansion in recent years and is now reassessing its workforce structure to ensure long-term sustainability and efficiency.

The layoffs are expected to impact multiple divisions across the company, including corporate and technology teams, though amazon has not disclosed a detailed breakdown of the affected departments. The move follows earlier job cuts announced in recent months, reflecting broader challenges data-faced by global technology companies amid economic uncertainty, rising costs, and slower growth.

Galetti emphadata-sized that amazon remains committed to supporting affected employees by providing severance packages, transitional benefits, and assistance in finding new employment opportunities. She described the decision as difficult but necessary, acknowledging the contributions of employees who are being let go.

The latest announcement has drawn attention from industry observers, as it signals continued restructuring within the tech sector. Analysts note that companies like amazon are increasingly prioritizing profitability and operational discipline after years of aggressive hiring and expansion.

Despite the layoffs, amazon reaffirmed its focus on innovation, customer experience, and long-term growth, stating that it will continue to invest in key areas such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and logistics.
