West Nile Virus Sparks Global Health Alarm..!?
An elderly woman living in the Lazio region of italy has died from West nile Virus (WNV). This is the 10th death from this virus in the country. So far, the West nile Virus has spread to 5 countries in Europe. For the Lazio region, this is the fourth West nile Virus death. She was from Cisterna di Latina and was first admitted to the San Paolo Hospital in Velletri and then transferred to Rome. However, she died without any treatment.
West nile Virus is a disease transmitted to humans through the bite of Culex mosquitoes. When these mosquitoes bite infected birds, the virus enters them. When they then bite humans, we get the infection. This virus can cause serious health problems in humans.
All of the recent deaths from the disease here have been in people over 50. In the last week of July alone, 57 people in italy were diagnosed with the virus. Eight more have died. Experts indicate that up to 20% of those infected with this virus, which attacks the nervous system and paralyzes, die. This was 14 percent in 2024 and 20 percent in 2018. So far, cases of this virus have been reported in italy, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, and France. The maximum number of cases has been reported in the Latina province of italy, with 43. european health authorities are taking necessary measures to prevent and contain the further spread of this virus.
