A video shared by indian Gems on social media has highlighted significant concerns regarding the condition of the newly inaugurated Samruddhi Mahamarg, officially known as the Hindu Hrudaysamrat balasaheb Thackeray maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, near Mumbai. The expressway, which was inaugurated on june 5, 2025, is already showing signs of deterioration, with visible potholes marring its surdata-face.

The video, sourced from mid-day, captures a 7.13-second sequence of the expressway, showing multiple potholes filled with water, likely due to recent rains. The footage, taken at various intervals, depicts vehicles navigating around these hazards, raising questions about the road's safety and durability. The text overlay in the video reads "Samruddhi Maha-Pothole-Marg," a sarcastic play on the expressway's name, emphasizing the irony of its current state.

The post criticizes the lack of media attention to this issue, suggesting that it might be due to the location not being in Bengaluru, a city often in the spotlight for infrastructure challenges. This has sparked discussions on social media about the quality of infrastructure projects in India, the effectiveness of recent inaugurations, and the accountability of those responsible for maintaining such critical transport links.

The Samruddhi Mahamarg is a 701-kilometer, 6-lane, access-controlled motorway that was built to link nagpur and mumbai with the goal of promoting regional and economic growth throughout Maharashtra. But the early indications of deterioration have raised questions about whether the project lives up to the high expectations that come with such a large investment. Wider dissatisfaction with infrastructure management and the quick deterioration of recently built roads, particularly in light of excessive rainfall and insufficient drainage systems, is reflected in the film and the comments that follow.
