Which Indian state has most Waqf properties? Not Karnataka or West Bengal
The 'Waqf capital' of india is hyderabad, out of all the states and cities. About 30% of all Waqf properties in the nation are located there, with about 77,000 of them. These include commercial districts close to charminar that generate crores of rupees annually and ancient sites like the 400-year-old Mecca Masjid. The Deccan's Nizams gave many of these areas as gifts.
With 1.5 lakh Waqf properties, Uttar Pradesh has the most, but it comes in second in terms of total value. Notable locations include the areas close to Kanpur, Meerut, and Moradabad, as well as Bada Imambara in Lucknow.
Major cities like hyderabad, delhi, Ajmer, and mumbai have significant Waqf assets.
The Mecca Masjid complex in hyderabad is valued at more than Rs 5,000 crore. The Jama Masjid complex in delhi is worth Rs 3,000 crore. Mumbai's Haji ali is situated on valuable beachfront land, while Ajmer's Dargah receives more than Rs 100 crore a year.
