The search for the accused in the alleged rape of a woman inside a bus at Swargate bus depot in pune, maharashtra has intensified. The demand for strict punishment for the absconding criminal is increasing across the country, meanwhile former Chief Justice of india D.Y. Chandrachud has also reacted.

Former Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud said on thursday (February 27, 2025) that there were many improvements in the laws after the Nirbhaya incident, but such crimes cannot be stopped by just making laws. He said, "The laws made for women should be implemented properly. women should feel safe wherever they go. In such cases, proper investigation, strict action, quick hearing and punishment are necessary." He also emphadata-sized the responsibility of the police and the justice system to ensure the safety of women.

Opposition parties have compared the incident to the 2012 delhi Nirbhaya case, which has increased pressure on the government. How did the crime happen?

The victim said that at 5:45 am on Tuesday, when she was waiting for a bus to Phaltan in Satara district, the accused engaged her in conversation by calling her 'didi' and told her that his bus was parked on the other platform. After this, the accused took her to an empty 'Shiv Shahi' AC bus, whose lights were off. Initially, the woman hesitated, but the accused assured her that this was the right bus. As soon as the woman boarded the bus, the accused entered, closed the door and raped her. After the incident, the accused fled.

Investigation and further action

The police is searching for the accused on the basis of CCTV footage. The MSRTC administration has started reviewing the security system. A speedy investigation is underway on the basis of the victim's statement. This case raises serious questions about women's safety.
