Mahakumbh Takes Place On Waqf Land - Shankaracharya Supports Maulana

SIBY JEYYA
Nationwide excitement for Mahakumbh 2025 is at its height. The confluence city of Prayagraj is seeing an influx of foreign saints, monks, and adherents of Sanatan Dharma.

Amidst this, Maulana's comment has caused a sensation across the country.

Maulana Shahabuddin Bareilvi has voiced his disapproval of Mahakumbh 2025, claiming that it is being held on Waqf property. But since when did the site of the Kumbh Mela, which has been celebrated for millennia at the meeting point of the Yamuna, Saraswati, and ganga rivers in Prayagraj, become Waqf property? This is yet unknown.

Remarkably, Shankaracharya and Hindu saint Avimukteshwaranand has endorsed Maulana's assertion. "If temples can be found beneath mosques, then is it wrong for someone to claim that Mahakumbh is being held on Waqf land?" the Shankaracharya said, drawing a comparison to the Kashi-Mathura debates. According to the Shankaracharya, if someone has made such a claim, its veracity should be looked upon. The land ought to be restored if it is, in fact, Waqf property. But there is also debate about Avimukteshwaranand's personal claim to the title of Shankaracharya.

According to the allegations, he declared himself a Shankaracharya, which is against the rules, rather than having the post properly given to him. Regarding this, Avimukteshwaranand is also involved in legal proceedings. He has, however, demanded that Maulana's allegation be looked into and said that the Waqf land should be given up if it turns out to be accurate.

The Shankaracharya has also addressed the call to exclude Muslims from entering Mahakumbh. He said that individuals of other religions carry out similar activities to offend Sanatan dharma adherents, citing instances in which meals and drinks were purportedly tainted with pee or saliva.

If such individuals are present, it would be best for them to skip Mahakumbh. He went on to say that the monks and saints who made this demand had to have given it considerable thought. Avimukteshwaranand went on to say that no Maulvi or Maulana is ever observed condemning members of the Muslim community for their transgressions.
