India's HMPV Case Rises to 7 : 2 New Cases in Tamil Nadu

In response to concerns about the spread of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) infections, the tamil Nadu government confirmed two cases in the state but stated that HMPV is not a new virus and that the infections are "self-limiting" and can be treated with rest and hydration. The people were advised not to panic.
Two HMPV infection cases have been detected, one in chennai and one in Salem, according to a statement from health Secretary supriya Sahu. Both patients are stable. According to the announcement, tamil Nadu has not seen a notable increase in common respiratory viral infections. It said that the government keeps a tight eye on severe acute respiratory diseases (SARI) and influenza-like illnesses (ILI).
The announcement emphadata-sized that the government of india underlined that the HMPV virus is stable and not a reason to fear during a video conference held on monday with senior officials from every State government present.
 
It said that the precautions against HMPV infection are the same as those against other respiratory illnesses, and they include hand washing, wearing masks in crowded areas, covering one's mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing, and reporting to a medical institution if necessary.
 
First discovered in 2001, HMPV can result in respiratory tract infections.
