UP Police Remove Loud Speakers From Mosques - Gets In Controversy

SIBY JEYYA
Uttar Pradesh has made headlines once more. It's the mosque loudspeaker dispute this time. The Uttar Pradesh police confiscated loudspeakers from several mosques in firozabad on the grounds of noise pollution. The police explained that the action was done in response to noise pollution complaints on saturday as the topic heated up.

Police of Uttar Pradesh's Justification

Firozabad police said on saturday that they have long been getting complaints about loudspeakers being played at high decibel levels at mosques. police assert that mosque leaders disregarded earlier orders to lower loudspeaker levels in several mosques. Consequently, several mosques in firozabad were targeted on Saturday.
Several mosques had their loudspeakers taken out:

According to a senior firozabad police officer, loudspeakers were being played loudly in a number of the district's mosques. They took out these loudspeakers. Mosques were occasionally told to turn down the volume on their loudspeakers. All houses of worship have been told by the police to respect noise ordinances; if they don't, severe measures will be taken.

Criticism from the Opposition:

"We respect all religions, but rules must be followed," the official continued. people are inconvenienced by loudspeakers that are played at such high decibel levels. This action was thus taken to preserve peace and order and reduce noise pollution. The opposition, however, denounced the action, claiming it reflected the strict Hindutva policies of the yogi government.
Mention of Past Incidents:

A complaint about the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, was filed last month. A Harihar temple was said to have stood on the location before it was destroyed to make way for the mosque during Babur's rule. A survey of the mosque was then ordered by the Uttar Pradesh lower court, which resulted in violent altercations with the police and many fatalities. This latest occurrence is now seen by political circles as yet another reason to be concerned.
