A.R. rahman joined the ilayaraja band at the age of 11 to play keyboard. Later, he worked with many composers including M. S. Viswanathan, Ramesh Naidu, Zakir Hussain, and Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan. He graduated in classical music from Trinity college of Music. Following this, rahman composed music for more than 300 commercials including Boost, Asian Paints, Airtel, and Leo Coffee. Before composing music for films, A.R. rahman played in many music groups. A.R. rahman has told about an incident that happened at that time in one of his interviews. In music group shows, music is always composed only for films that have already been released and are hits. A.R. rahman was also doing the same. At that time, a drunk guitarist told A.R. rahman that you are copying the music of a song that had already come to him. He said that create something unique for yourself and only then will you stand out from the crowd. A.R. rahman came to his senses. Thinking that he should do something new, he stopped playing in groups and tried to compose music. A.R. rahman has told this information in a recent interview.
