Don't say the student shouldn't have gone to the thicket! Judges are strict! Trial continues today

The madras High Court, which yesterday questioned the tamil Nadu government and the police in the anna university student sexual assault case, has ordered them to file a detailed report in this regard today.

The petitions filed by lawyers Varalakshmi and Mohandas seeking to transfer the investigation of the anna university student sexual assault case to the cbi came up for hearing in a bench comprising Justices S M Subramaniam and v Lakshmi Narayanan.

The lawyers appearing for the petitioners argued that the police's release of the First Information Report related to the case was illegal and that since the police Commissioner himself had admitted that the First Information Report was released, action should be taken against the police concerned. Pointing out that the police Commissioner had stated that there were 20 cases against the arrested person, the lawyers insisted that they should investigate who was behind him.

The lawyers demanded that the First Information Report be issued in violation of the section of the law brought for the protection of women victims of sexual assault, and that a Special Investigation Team be formed and ordered to investigate the case under the supervision of a retired judge in the interim. The police Commissioner said that there is only one sexual assault case against the arrested person. But there are many cases. The petitioners argued that they should also be investigated.

The judges who intervened then questioned how the police Commissioner concluded that he was a criminal while the investigation was pending and why the arrested person had a bandage on his leg. When the Attorney General and Additional Attorney General of the tamil Nadu government responded to this, they said that the police Commissioner had said that only the name of the arrested person was mentioned in the complaint filed by the victim student.

The police also explained that when the arrested person was taken for investigation, he tried to escape and when the police chased him, he fell and was injured. Following this, should government officials obtain government permission before meeting journalists under the code of conduct? The judges ordered the tamil Nadu government and the police to file a detailed report on the release of the First Information Report and who is responsible for it.

Similarly, what steps has anna university taken for the safety of the students?

The judges ordered anna university to submit a report on the details of the Nirbhaya funds spent and how many complaints have been received by the university's visakha committee and adjourned the hearing to tomorrow. The judges praised the victim student for coming forward to file a complaint courageously and said that it was our duty to protect her and that the culprit had been roaming the anna university campus for 10 years.

Have you investigated it?

The judges said that women should not talk to men, that the victim student should not have gone there, and that women have complete freedom. The judges pointed out that love is a woman's freedom.
