No OTPs From December 1 On Your Smartphone? TRAI's New Rules

Telecom companies Jio, Airtel, vodafone Idea, and bsnl have been instructed by TRAI to implement the traceability regulation beginning on december 1 in order to combat spam SMS and phishing assaults. OTP and commercial communications will be monitored under the traceability rule.
 
Notably, TRAI has decided to enforce it rigorously for all telecom providers.

TRAI's Anti-Scam Initiatives
 
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of india (TRAI) has put policies in place to shield people against internet fraud and scams.
 
In an announcement made in August, TRAI directed telecom providers to guarantee the traceability of OTPs and marketing texts.
 
Following appeals by Jio, Airtel, VI, and bsnl, the telecom regulator originally requested the carriers to execute the regulation by october 1, 2024. The deadline was then extended to november 1, and now it is scheduled for december 1.
 
These steps might delay the delivery of OTP messages if they are put into effect on december 1.

This program tackles frauds that use phony OTP messages and frequently result in large financial losses.

New rules will assist hasten the building of 5g infrastructure starting on january 1, 2025.
