Following the release of a video starring Maulana Sajjad Nomani, the idea of "Vote Jihad" in the maharashtra Assembly elections gained considerable attention. During the election campaign, the bjp targeted the maha Vikas Aghadi after seeing the video. Maulana Nomani reaffirmed his stance on the contentious comments following the election results.
After the results of the maharashtra Assembly election were announced, Maulana Sajjad Nomani, the president of the All india Ekta Forum, released an explanation. He expressed regret for his previous statement that Muslims who supported the bjp ought to be shunned. He made it clear that his remarks were not intended to declare a fatwa or to single out any one group.
Khalilur Rehman Sajjad Nomani Nadvi clarified the aforementioned comments in a letter that came to light. He clarified in the letter that the statement on boycotting Muslims who backed the bjp was made in response to inquiries from several people over the denial of their basic right to vote in the lok sabha elections. He made it clear that his remarks were meant for those specific people and not for the Muslim community as a whole.
Nomani further clarified, "My statement was made in september 2024, long before the maharashtra elections, and should not be viewed out of context. It was never intended as an attack on any community, nor was it meant to be a fatwa."
