G GOWTHAM
There is relief in the indian American community's recent agitation over the planned modifications to the Overseas Citizenship of india regulations. Just in time, the indian Consulate General in additional York clarified in a clear and sincere manner that no additional limitations had been put in place, putting an end to all the circulating rumors that had been causing a great deal of anxiety among the throngs of indians living abroad.

It relayed the information to the community directly via a post shared on X: We have come across news reports spreading false information that restrictions have been placed on OCI cardholders in the recent past. Friends in the indian American community are hereby informed that no new change has been introduced in the past for OCI card holders. Provisions of Gazette Notification https://F.No. 26011/CC/05/2018-OCI dated march 4, 2021, regarding rights of OCI cardholders continue to remain in force.
This message had the sound of a calm wave following a storm. Many saw this as a guarantee that their rights and benefits as OCI cardholders would stay extremely secure, a status that has served as a link between identities and homelands for a considerable amount of time. The more than 32 million indians living abroad believed they may lose the benefits associated with their OCI card, which has served as a sign of their long-term enslavement to India.
For many in the indian American community, OCI status symbolizes much more than simply a bureaucratic card; it speaks to identity. For them, the loss was just another element of losing their india connection. Millions of people may now breathe a bit better thanks to clarity, knowing that their indian origins are secure.
