October 31 Deadline for IPL Franchises to Submit Retained Players List
The IPL Governing Council has announced retention guidelines ahead of the upcoming mega auction, requiring all ten franchises to submit their lists of retained players by 5 PM IST on october 31, 2024.
According to reports, players who are capped on or before this deadline will be classified as capped players. Each franchise can retain a maximum of six players from their previous squads, utilizing a Right To Match (RTM) card during the auction, which will cost Rs 75 crore from an increased team purse of Rs 120 crore.
Additionally, indian players who have not played any international matches for at least five calendar years will be considered ‘uncapped’ under the new guidelines.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced a fixed match fee of Rs 7.50 lakh for players participating in league games, along with an additional Rs 1.05 crore beyond their salaries. Each franchise will need to maintain a fixed salary purse of Rs 12.60 crore in addition to the auction and retention budget of Rs 120 crore for the next season.
Retention Costs
While the IPL statement did not specify exact retention values, reports indicate that the first retention will cost Rs 18 crore, the second Rs 14 crore, and the third Rs 11 crore. For the fourth and fifth retainers, the costs revert to Rs 18 crore and Rs 14 crore, respectively. If a franchise retains five capped players, they will have only Rs 45 crore left to acquire additional players or utilize their RTM card.
Withdrawal Ban
To address the issue of players withdrawing after being auctioned, particularly english and Australian players, the bcci is considering implementing a two-year ban on any player who withdraws post-auction. Specifically, overseas players who do not register for an auction in a given year will be ineligible to participate for the next two years.
