The primary issue with this movie is that, while having a large cast, none of them are given deep enough characterizations. What's the use of having so many characters when they all act the same way? Why pick people with such skill as Chacko and give them only a line or two to work with?
Furthermore, there is not much of a plot, and the entire movie mostly depends on visual effects and buildups. The visual richness or the BGM barely make a difference in the overall experience when the information on screen is bad. A movie this data-size would never have a single "goosebumps" scene. Character introductions and action sequences make up the first half of the movie, and the real turning point occurs right before the intermission. The narrative progresses slowly up until that time, consisting only of action sequences with pirates at sea.
