Army Officer Reflects on wayanad Landslides at She shakti 2024

 She shakti 2024 event in New delhi on Monday, three Armed Forces officers shared their experiences and insights, emphasizing the military's focus on mission over gender. Major Seeta ashok Shelke, the sole female officer in her indian Army unit, recounted the intense effort it took to build a 120-foot Bailey Bridge in Kerala’s wayanad district following devastating landslides on July 30, 2024. The team completed the bridge in about 34 hours, overcoming significant challenges without concern for their own discomfort. Shelke highlighted that the Army’s mission extends beyond national defense to preserving the essence of the country.
The wayanad landslides, which caused immense devastation, resulted in over 231 deaths and the recovery of 218 body parts from affected villages such as Punchirimattam, Chooralmala, and Mundakkai.
Squadron leader Shivangi Singh, the first female fighter pilot to fly the Rafale, spoke about gender neutrality in the Armed Forces. She emphadata-sized that operating advanced machinery transcends gender, and women are contributing significantly across various fields. Singh noted the importance of perseverance and support, sharing that overcoming self-doubt is part of the journey. Her motto, “If you take off, you have to land,” underscores her commitment to her missions.
Captain Shilpi Singh of the indian Navy, who also spoke at the event, reflected on her personal connection to the Armed Forces through her father, a paratrooper. She shared her experience aboard INS Deepak, a fleet replenishment tanker built in Italy, describing her initial feelings of excitement and the personal growth she experienced during her 13-month stint on the ship.
