Is Alia Bhatt's JIGRA a Remake of Flop Movie?

SIBY JEYYA
Last sunday saw the premiere of the teaser for alia Bhatt's next movie Jigra, which gives an insight into the life of a brother and sister team who had a challenging upbringing. The story revolves around Alia's attempt to free her brother from prison, and it shows her becoming physically ready for the risky escape. Jigra appears to be influenced by the Russell Crowe movie The Next Three Days, which is a reimagining of the French film Pour Elle directed by Fred Cavaye.

After his wife is falsely accused of murder, Crowe's character in The Next Three Days goes to tremendous measures to free her. In Jigra, alia bhatt plays the primary character, trying to save her brother from prison as the plot shifts to focus on a brother and sister. Recently, mukesh bhatt played Savi in a bollywood remake of The Next Three Days, which also starred divya khosla Kumar and Harshvardhan Rane. Regretfully, Savi failed miserably at the box office, grossing less than 3 crores net.

According to industry sources, alia Bhatt's role in karan Johar's next film Jigra is basically a retelling of the same tale. The main distinction is that Jigra's character, played by alia bhatt, is out to save her brother, whilst Savi's character, played by divya khosla Kumar, is committed to saving her spouse. Jigra, which is produced by karan johar and alia bhatt and directed by Vasan Bala, who is renowned for iconic movies like Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota and monica Oh My Darling, is set to hit theaters on october 11.
