Bill Gates: Embracing a Future of Work and Philanthropy
Bill Gates, the iconic co-founder of microsoft and leading philanthropist, has shared his desire to continue working for another two decades, emphasizing that the idea of reducing his workload feels “awful” to him. At 68, Gates, known for his transformative impact on the tech industry and his dedication to global philanthropy, remains committed to staying actively involved in both his professional and charitable endeavors.
In an interview with CNBC’s Make It, Gates expressed his admiration for his longtime friend and fellow billionaire Warren Buffett, noting Buffett's commitment to working six days a week. Gates hopes to mirror this dedication, saying, “I hope my health allows me to be like Warren.” He envisions maintaining his current work pace for at least another 10 years, with a hopeful outlook of extending it to 20 or even 30 years, if possible.
Gates acknowledged that his approach to work has evolved. Reflecting on his past, he admitted that his relentless drive—often working through weekends and vacations—was somewhat excessive. Despite his reduced pace, he continues to stay involved as a "technology advisor" at microsoft, while focusing the majority of his efforts on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The Gates Foundation, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2025, remains a central focus for Gates. The organization tackles pressing global issues such as poverty, climate change, healthcare, and education. Gates highlighted the foundation's ongoing mission to combat diseases like polio and malaria, aiming to significantly reduce childhood deaths from 5 million to 2.5 million.
In addition to his philanthropic work, Gates is set to explore future technologies and innovations in his upcoming Netflix series, What’s Next? The Future with Bill Gates. This five-episode series will delve into potential advancements and emerging trends that could shape the future.
Gates’s dedication to both his professional legacy and philanthropic goals underscores his commitment to making a lasting impact on the world, demonstrating that his passion for work and positive change remains as strong as ever.
