RG Kar Official Allegedly Misled Doctor’s Parents About Her Death
Recent audio recordings obtained by CNN-News18 have revealed troubling interactions between officials at RG Kar Medical college and Hospital and the parents of a female doctor who was found dead under suspicious circumstances on august 9. The tapes suggest that hospital staff may have tried to mislead the parents about the nature of their daughter’s condition.
In the first recording, a conversation between the victim’s father and an assistant superintendent at the hospital is heard. The official tells him that his daughter is “extremely unwell and has been hospitalized.” However, when the father inquires further, the response is vague and concerning. The assistant superintendent says, “I am not a doctor, I am an assistant superintendent; your daughter has been admitted to the emergency, her condition is very bad. A doctor will tell you more about this.”
Here’s a brief excerpt from the conversation:
RG Kar: “She is unwell; come to the hospital. We’re admitting her.” Parents: “Please tell us what has happened?” RG Kar: “She is really unwell; we’re admitting her.” Parents: “Does she have a fever? How bad is her condition?” RG Kar: “Doctors will tell you when you come.” Parents: “Does she have a fever?” RG Kar: “Can’t say; might have died by suicide.” Parents: [Silence]
In the second recording, a different voice informs the parents: “Please come as soon as possible. Your daughter is no more. She may have died by suicide. The police are here, so you also come quickly. You will know more when you are here.”
The recordings reveal that despite repeated questions from the parents about their daughter's condition, the officials provided evasive answers and suggested that only a doctor could provide further details.
It is suspected that Anita Dhara, an assistant superintendent, is the person heard in the audio, although the former head of chest medicine has stated that the call was made by Dwaipayan Biswas, a deputy superintendent.
