Bangladeshi Journalist Found Dead in Dhaka Lake;
The body of Sarah Rahanuma, a 32-year-old Bangladeshi tv journalist, was discovered in Hatirjheel Lake in Dhaka on Monday. Rahanuma, who worked as a newsroom editor and anchor at Gazi tv, was found floating in the lake, as reported by local media.
Following the discovery, Wazed, son of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, condemned the incident as a "brutal attack" on freedom of expression in Bangladesh. He highlighted that this case represents a severe blow to journalistic freedom in the country.
A witness who found Rahanuma’s body reported that she was retrieved from the lake and taken to Dhaka Medical college Hospital (DMCH), where she was declared dead.
Prior to her death, Rahanuma posted a poignant message on Facebook, expressing regrets about unfulfilled plans and bidding farewell to a friend. She wrote, "It was nice having a friend like you. god bless you always. Hope you’ll fulfil all your dreams soon. Sorry, I can’t fulfil our plans. May god bless you in every aspect of your life. It is better to die than to live a life akin to death."
The Hatirjheel police station has filed a report on the incident, and Rahanuma’s body is currently at the DMCH morgue for further examination.
