The World health Organization (WHO) has declared this serious disease a global public health emergency. The virus has so far affected 116 countries. Although this disease is not yet endemic in India, it has reached our neighboring country Pakistan. In neighboring Pakistan, 3 people have been affected by monkey fever. In such a situation, there is a need to take precautionary measures in India. Monkeypox virus, also known as Mpox, is a rare viral disease primarily found in primates such as monkeys and apes. This serious disease is now spreading to humans. The virus is spread through contact with an infected person or animal. It is also spread by talking or breathing too close to an infected person. The disease also spreads through contaminated materials such as bedding, clothes, and towels used by the infected person.

Symptoms of Monkeypox usually appear between 5 and 21 days after exposure to the virus. Most of these symptoms are similar to those of smallpox. Common symptoms of Monkeypox include itchy skin, high fever, extreme fatigue, chills, sweating, headache, muscle and back pain, swollen lymph nodes, and blisters or scabs on the skin. The severity of monkey fever depends on the strain of the virus and the health of the infected person. If the infection is mild, there is usually a full recovery. However, in some cases when the disease is severe, it can even become life-threatening. Children, pregnant women, or people with weakened immune systems are more likely to become infected with Monkeypox.
