What is this Special Status..? When will it be Given..?
- A special status born out of the recommendations of the first Economic Community in 1961.
- Taxes payable to the Center are limited to 10%.
-The demand for special status has increased.
They keep saying that they want special status for AP. But what is this special status? How to give? When will it be given? Many people do not know about these things. But, the fact is that even if special status is given, it depends on how it is used. During the time of Nehru, the first prime minister of the country, the planning commission set by the states for their development calculated the performance and income sources of the states. According to these plans, the country has been taken forward and it has given direction on the issues. In this way, the Planning Commission was formed in 1951. Later, the Economic Commissions also formed according to the patterns of the states, calculated the distribution of income and the use of resources. It is noteworthy that now this policy is going forward in a centralized manner.
In 1961, the first Economic Commission made some proposals for the development of the states. From the state of andhra pradesh to kashmir at that time, the Economic Commission, which studied, explained the different conditions of the states. It showed a difference between the plain states and the hilly states. Similarly, it has been divided into low-income states and high-income states. In this order, states sharing data-borders with hills, hillocks, and foreign countries have been found to be lagging behind in economic development. In this order, it is proposed to give special status to the respective states.

Most of these states include North Eastern states like Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Nagaland. In addition to these, kashmir - SRINAGAR/JAMMU' target='_blank' title='jammu and kashmir-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">jammu and kashmir also existed at that time. There is no provision in the constitution to grant this status. It is just a law made by the parliament or it is implemented depending on the decision. Thus, the states' share in the schemes implemented by the Center will be limited to 10 percent for a minimum period of five years. Similarly, taxes payable to the center will also be limited to a maximum of 10 percent. Due to this, those setting up new industries and organizations will have an opportunity of up to five years. Thus the economic condition of the respective states will improve. Only the state government takes taxes here. Not the center. Due to this, even if the taxes are collected, they will be limited only to the states. Hence the demand for special status has increased. But, the First Finance Commission has nowhere said that it should be given to all the states.
