Can Janasena get Opposition Status?

G GOWTHAM
It's a fascinating topic about who in the andhra pradesh Legislative assembly will be designated as the opposition. In accordance with legislative customs and regulations, a party is not eligible for opposition status until it has obtained 10 percent or more of the seats in the Legislative assembly, or Lok Sabha.
Under the present situation, the janasena party ran for and was successful in winning 21 seats in the 175-member assembly, meeting the 10 percent threshold.

Janasena, however, is not eligible to be considered an opposition party because it is a member of the ruling coalition. Janasena satisfies the seat criteria, but she is not qualified to become an opposition party because the regulations only allow parties not in the government to do so. In light of these facts, the 16th ap Legislative assembly will not have a formal opposition party unless the Speaker exercises his or her discretionary authority to provide this status to a party that falls short of the ten percent seat threshold.

The Speaker has the power to make these choices, and they may take into account parties who did not run as part of an alliance or who did not have the necessary approval from their alliance members. Consequently, neither janasena nor the YSRCP will be able to obtain opposition status given the existing political data-alignment. Because of this unique circumstance, the YSRCP may find itself functioning as the de facto opposition party even if it isn't recognised as such.
