"A call of a roof collapse at delhi Airport's Terminal 1 was received at approximately 5:30 in the morning. An officer from delhi Fire services stated that three fire engines had been dispatched to the scene, according to ANI. The cause of the roof collapses, however, is still unknown. In the early hours of Friday, thunderstorms and lightning were accompanied by persistent rain in delhi and the surrounding National capital Region (NCR), resulting in flooding and waterlogging of roadways across the area.

Thursday's intense rains in the nation's capital kept the day's temperature just below average. Pre-monsoon showers fell over the area on wednesday as well, preventing Delhi's high temperature from rising above 40°C. On october 31, 2023, the delhi Airport's Terminal 1 reopened to passengers, some 19 months after operations were halted for upgrades and COVID-19 concerns. In addition, the airport's expanded Terminal 1 opened for business in march of this year. The airport can currently manage 40 million passengers annually (MPPA), more than twice as many as it could handle 17 MPPA in the beginning.
