All eyes on BRS MLAs in Telangana - Jump to Congress or BJP?

SIBY JEYYA
Political dynamics in telangana are about to shift, as the bharatiya janata party (BJP), which won 8 of the 17 lok sabha seats in the recently held elections, is now in the lead. There will probably be defections from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which came up empty, according to sources in the congress and BJP. Which side the lawmakers will support is the major unanswered issue.

In telangana, the bjp has had exponential growth in the recent six months following its 14% vote share and eight assembly seats in 2023. In the recently held general elections, it was able to get eight of the seventeen lok sabha seats or 35% of the total vote. Although certain BRS MLAs are in contact with them, a top bjp leader stated that they had not personally approached anyone.

We also predict a large number of BRS MLAs to resign. Some might visit us, and some might visit Congress. When questioned about potential defections, the bjp leader responded, "There is some talk among BRS legislators about where to go."

Senior Congressman from hyderabad said that other elements, such as the establishment of the new federal government, will also have an impact. "Now, the game will start. The formation of the federal government determines whether BRS MLAs defect to Congress. BRS MLAs may also join the bjp for federal support if the BJP-led nda forms it as anticipated, he told india Herald.

Political rumors circulated following the assembly elections of last year, indicating that about twenty-five BRS MLAs were considering a mass defection to the Congress. But that was not the case. In the run-up to the lok sabha elections, only a small number of MLAs, like Kadiam srihari of Station Ghanapur and danam nagender of Khairatabad, have joined the Congress.

"The lok sabha election results have caused chief minister Revanth Reddy's graph to decline. We are not any stronger than the bjp because we only won 8 of the 17 seats. The congress representative stated, "We also lost about three seats—Secunderabad, Mahbubagar, and Chevella—by accepting AIMIM's backing, which caused Hindu voters to go to the BJP.

Telangana will shortly have panchayat and local body elections following the lok sabha elections. These will be a litmus test for whether the BRS is poised for collapse or whether the bjp seizes control of the party.
