The election Commission's figures early on this (Wednesday) morning showed that the Bharatiya Janata Party's final lok sabha seat total settled at 240. The ruling party, which has dominated indian politics under prime minister Narendra Modi with a string of wins in general and assembly elections since 2014, will now need to rely on the backing of its nda allies in order to form a government at the center as it failed to secure the necessary 272 votes to form a majority.

While this was going on, the congress began to show indications of a comeback after the bjp crushed them in the general elections in 2014 and 2019. Prior to the outcome of the lok sabha elections in 2024, the party was written off by commentators, but it made a significant comeback by securing 99 seats.

Nevertheless, prime minister Modi described the election results as a "unprecedented moment in the history of India". "For the third time in a row, the nation's citizens have shown their faith in the NDA. There has never been a situation like this in indian history. I am grateful for my family's affection and benefits. PM Modi wrote on X, "I promise the countrymen that we will move forward with new energy, new enthusiasm, and new resolves to fulfil their aspirations." The national democratic alliance holds a narrow majority of little over 290 MPs. The india group may try to gain the backing of the BJP's allies, such as the tdp and Nitish Kumar's JD(U), after securing more than 230 seats.
