People's disillusionment led to YSRCP's Embarrassing Defeat

SIBY JEYYA
The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu congress party (YSRCP) was destroyed in the assembly polls as a result of the public's dissatisfaction with the party's control in Andhra Pradesh; telugu desam party (TDP) is expected to return to power with a resounding win.

Several factors contributed to the YSRCP's humiliating defeat, including its quick U-turn on Amaravati's designation as the state capital after taking office in 2019, its inability to deliver on its promise to build three state capitals, the reversal of important decisions made by the previous government that derailed the development process, its alleged "destructive" rule, its political vendetta against opposition leaders, and the incomplete polavaram project.

The tdp, bjp, and Jana Sena's coalition seemed to have changed the game by preventing the division of anti-establishment support.

In a reversal of the 2019 results, the people in a state that remains without a state capital despite a decade of bifurcating unified andhra pradesh have mandated support for the TDP-led alliance.

The tdp, which had established the first administration in the shortened state in 2014, lost power in 2019, hence this election furthered the trend of voting out the incumbent.

The people have placed their trust in experienced leader Chandrababu Naidu once more. He will become chief minister for a fourth time (in the combined state of andhra pradesh and the truncated state).

The tdp and its supporters seemed to have the support of all social groups, as evidenced by their remarkable strike rate of almost 100%.

According to the trends, YSRCP may come in a dismal third place behind Jana Sena and would not even be recognized as the primary opposition party.

The contest between the nda and the YSRCP was probably going to be close, with the latter having the advantage. But the ruling party is extremely shocked by the outcome.

The pattern indicates that in 162 of the 175 assembly seats, the tripartite coalition was in the lead.

Just the tdp gained 13 seats and held the lead in 122 parts.

In 18 constituencies, the Jana Sena led the opposition and won three seats.

The YSRCP, led by jagan Mohan reddy, was in the lead in just 13 constituencies.

Additionally, the nda held a lead in 21 of the state's 25 lok sabha seats. The bjp and Jana Sena led in three and two seats, respectively, while tdp candidates led in sixteen seats.

In just four constituencies did the YSRCP have a lead?

This is the YSRCP's worst-ever showing. jagan Mohan reddy founded the party in 2010 after leaving the congress party in a tragic sequence of events that followed the death of his father, YS Rajasekhara reddy (YSR), in a helicopter crash in 2009.

After undivided andhra pradesh was split into two states, the YSRCP became a powerful force in the shorter state, and jagan Mohan reddy was able to effectively claim YSR's political legacy.

The party gained eight lok sabha seats and 67 assembly seats in 2014, almost missing out on becoming the majority.

With a landslide majority, the YSRCP destroyed the tdp in 2019 by gaining 151 assembly seats and 22 lok sabha seats.

Riding a wave of anti-incumbency sentiment, jagan Mohan reddy solidified his hold on power by winning both urban and rural local body elections.

Even though he made an effort to increase the party's support base through several welfare programs that catered primarily to women and the underprivileged, the party's reputation was tarnished by accusations of autocratic rule, corruption, alleged liquor, land, and sand mafias, and controversial decisions like abandoning Amaravati's development as the sole state capital.

The YSRCP's control infuriated the populace. Political analyst P Pavan stated that the party's contentious policies and manner alienated nearly every segment of society, motivated only by political retaliation.

The powerful kamma community, who are perceived as longtime tdp loyalists, was also observed to be a target of the YSRCP.

The party also alienated segments of the reddy community who were thought to be ardent supporters of the YSRCP and the Kapus, Backward Classes, and other castes.

Many YSRCP leaders including ministers data-faced charges of corruption and collaboration with the liquor, land, and sand mafia.

Additionally, they are accused of employing oppressive tactics against political rivals.

The public's anger towards the YSRCP was heightened by the humiliation of leader of the Opposition and tdp chief, N Chandrababu Naidu, in the assembly, his arrest on charges of corruption last year, the arrest of multiple tdp leaders, and the personal attacks on actor and Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan.

Jagan Mohan reddy requested a new mandate to carry out the social programmes he had started.

At every electoral rally he attended, he claimed that with the click of a button, Rs. 2.70 lakh crore were sent directly benefiting people throughout the previous five years.
