International Day for Biodiversity: All you need to know!!!

The United Nations-approved international Day for Biological Diversity raises awareness of problems pertaining to biodiversity. The complex network of life on Earth, known as biodiversity, is essential to human well-being both now and in the future. Its rapid loss threatens both the natural world and humankind. Biodiversity gives the ecosystems on Earth more zing, if variety is the spice of life. Scientists and decision-makers worldwide are becoming more and more interested in this complicated topic. "The variety of life on Earth and the natural patterns it forms" is the definition of biodiversity, which was first used by Walter G. Rosen in 1985. The purpose of the important day is to raise awareness and understanding of issues related to biodiversity.

Every year on May 22, we mark international Day for Biodiversity, which falls on a wednesday this year. The international Day for Biological Diversity is being observed this year with the theme "Be Part of the Plan." This subject encourages governments, local communities and indigenous peoples, non-governmental organizations, legislators, corporations, and individuals to highlight the work they have done to promote the Biodiversity Plan's implementation.

The international Day of Biodiversity's history

The UN General Assembly's Second Committee created the international Day for Biological Diversity in 1993. It was first observed on december 29 in observance of the day the Convention on Biological Diversity went into force. To honor the Convention's adoption at the 1992 Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit and to avoid the several holidays in late december, the date was shifted to May 22 on december 20, 2000.
