Telangana Hyderabad - GHMC to pilot ‘shallow aquifer recharge project’ in 5 Hyderabad parks
The ghmc has chosen five parks to conduct the "shallow aquifer recharge project" as a pilot project in the city, in order to recharge groundwater and solve the issue of urban floods.
The trial project will take place in KLN Yadav Park in Khairtabad, Techno Park in Serilingampalli, Indira Park in Secunderabad, Kakatiya nagar Colony Park in LB nagar, and E-Sector Park in Sainikpuri.
GHMC personnel explained to residents of Kakatiya nagar Colony in Habsiguda how the project will recharge shallow aquifers, stating that the major goal is to build shallow aquifer injection borewells at a depth of 100 to 120 feet.
The trial project will take place in KLN Yadav Park in Khairtabad, Techno Park in Serilingampalli, Indira Park in Secunderabad, Kakatiya nagar Colony Park in LB nagar, and E-Sector Park in Sainikpuri.

They claimed that by obtaining precipitation from the watershed via recharge pits, shallow aquifers would be replenished, causing the ground water table to increase.
The park's watershed covers 6,85,738 square metres and has a capacity of 44.6 crore litres, with an annual rainfall of 53 lakh litres. The initiative is being executed by the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), which is part of the union ministry of housing and urban affairs, with the national institute of urban affairs (NIUA) serving as its nodal agency, in conjunction with The Rainwater initiative.
