Also, the scam came to light when Praneet Rao was arrested on march 13 on charges of disturbing the privacy of others without permission, illegally tapping phones, and destroying computer systems and official data. Former SIB DSP Praneet Rao was arrested on the complaint of the SIB Additional Superintendent. In this order, a case was registered in Panjagutta police station against former SIB DSP Praneet Rao, Additional SPs Bhujangara Rao, Thirupatanna, former Task Force DCP Radhakishan Rao and others. The charges include violation of personal privacy, disappearance of evidence, and criminal conspiracy. Along with the then opposition leader revanth reddy, other congress leaders, realtors, and celebrities were identified as having their phones tapped. There are allegations of collecting huge amounts of money from realtors and businessmen. At the same time, it seems that all the evidence related to their activities including computers, hard disks, and paper documents were destroyed.
Whose phones were tapped?
Reports claim that more than 100,000 phone calls were illegally tapped in this phone-tapping affair. Apart from chief minister revanth reddy, it seems that the phones of bharatiya janata party (BJP), congress, BRS leaders, realtors, and prominent leaders were tapped. Also, there are allegations of blackmailing movie and business celebrities and stealing huge amounts of money from them.
Who is involved in this case?
Former SIB chief T prabhakar Rao, suspended DSP D Praneethrao, former DCP P radhakrishna of Commissioner's Task Force, and a senior executive of a telugu TV channel are mainly involved in this scam. A lookout circular was also issued on former intelligence chief prabhakar Rao, who was A1 in this case. Actually, prabhakar Rao is undergoing cancer treatment in America. However, it seems that the treatment will remain there for another three months. Also, there are allegations that BRS leaders colluded with DSP D. Praneet Rao, who was arrested and suspended earlier for illegal phone tapping. The arrested officers admitted to involvement in various crimes including illegal surveillance of private individuals and destruction of evidence. In this context, the police have accelerated the investigation. An investigation has been started from the point of view of whose phones were tapped in this matter. Similarly, it seems that the police kept an eye on the movement of key leaders of the then-BRS government.
