Putin says 'radical Islamists' behind Moscow attack, reiterates Ukraine link

Vladimir Putin, the president of russia, stated on monday that Islamic extremists were responsible for the march 23 attack on Moscow's Crocus City Hall, while he also maintained that ukraine was involved in the bloodshed that resulted in the deaths of 139 people.

Putin stated that investigators are still trying to figure out who "ordered" the assault, which was carried out by "radical Islamists with an ideology that the Muslim world has fought for centuries," during a meeting in the Kremlin regarding responses to the worst attack in russia in 20 years. Telegram was used to post the Russian President's comments.

"It begs the question, who gains from this? Putin stated, "This atrocity might just be one more attempt in a long line of attacks by those who have been at war with our nation since 2014 at the hands of the neo-Nazi Kyiv regime."

According to him, the operation was carried out with the intention of "sowing panic" and maybe demonstrating to the people of ukraine that "not all is lost for the Kyiv regime" given that the Russia-Ukraine conflict is still ongoing. It is presently in its fourth year.

Putin had earlier claimed that the assailants in the moscow concert venue had moved to the Bryansk area, some 340 kilometers southwest of moscow, in an attempt to flee to Ukraine. He went on to say that certain Ukrainians had made arrangements to allow the four assailants to reach the Russian data-border.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of ukraine, has refuted the accusations made by the Russian president, accusing Putin of trying to shift the responsibility.

The four shooters who opened fire on bystanders at the Crocus City Hall, a music venue and shopping center, on march 23 were captured on camera by the Islamic State, which also claimed responsibility for the incident. The incident has been attributed to the terrorist organization's offshoot, the Islamic State Khorasan (ISIS-K), which is mainly active in afghanistan and areas of Central Asia.

Russia appears to have ignored the warning that US officials say they sent earlier this month about an impending strike.

Together with the US, france has now said that intelligence pointed to the Islamic State being responsible for the assault. Reporters were informed on monday by French President Emmanuel Macron that the intelligence at hand suggested "in fact that it was an entity of the Islamic State that instigated this attack."

Additionally, Macron issued a warning to moscow against "exploitation" of the incident, stating that "turning this context against ukraine by russia is cynical and counterproductive."
