In anticipation of the upcoming assembly elections in the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh, which will take place concurrently with the lok sabha election, the bharatiya janata party (BJP) on wednesday announced candidates for each of the state's 60 seats. chief minister Pema Khandu of the party is running from Mukto, the seat he held in 2019. His deputy, Chowna Mein, is running from Chowkham, his home constituency.

"I send my warmest regards to each of the 60 contenders...As the lovely people of the state have entire faith in our service to them distinguished by complete dedication and commitment, I am pretty sure each of you will be a winner," cm Khandu wrote on X following the list's announcement in Delhi. Notably, the bjp removed three ministers from the current cabinet along with 14 other MLAs who were in office. home minister Bamang Felix (Nyapin), industries minister Tumke Bagra (Alo West), and Agriculture minister Tage Taki (Ziro Hapoli) are the ministers that are absent.

The list includes three congress MLAs who recently joined the BJP: Ninong Ering (Pasighat West), Lombo Tayeng (Mebo), and Wangling Lowangdong (Borduria Bogapani). There are four female candidates on the list, including a newcomer and three current lawmakers. 53 of the 60 seats are set aside for candidates from scheduled tribes (ST), with the remaining seats being general seats. The National People's party, congress, and other well-known parties have not yet revealed their candidates for the assembly election. The bjp won 41 seats in 2019, the Janata Dal (United) won seven, the NPP won five, the congress won four, the Peoples party of Arunachal Pradesh won one, and Independents won the final two seats.
