What's wrong with India? Story behind the viral trend

SIBY JEYYA
'What's wrong with India?' was a common post topic on social media site X on Tuesday. By nightfall, more than 5.2 lakh postings had joined in, and the government's citizen engagement website, MyGovIndia, was among them.

However, what is the 'What's wrong with India' movement and why is it becoming so popular online? The affair began ten days ago when a gang in Dumka, jharkhand sexually assaulted a Spanish tourist.

Social media users were outraged by the occurrence, and many accounts shared their bad experiences traveling in India.

Nevertheless, some narratives exploited this chance to damage India's reputation by claiming that these things happened daily there.

Over a week, many messages were posted criticizing india for being the "rape capital of the world". Furthermore, these messages reinforced cultural and public hygiene norms.

Many of these posts were shared with the phrase 'what's wrong with India'.
Some social media users in india claimed that these posts were getting unusual traction and blamed X's algorithm for it.

THE UNO REVERSE CARD

The identical sentence was used in a few different postings by X users in india on tuesday but with a twist.

People posted videos and images of such events in other nations along with the comment, "What's wrong with India?"

The aim was to demonstrate that postings including the term "what's wrong with India" and sharing information that was critical of the country were being promoted by X's algorithm.

Over one lakh impressions were received by some of these posts, which were shared by persons with less than 300 followers. Another startling ratio was the number of likes to comments.

Indian X users shared pictures and videos of people openly defecating and bathing in Western countries, sarcastically marrying it with the phrase 'what's wrong with India'.
Here are some of the best memes shared on X:
