A significant meeting was convened in Washington to address the pressing issue of countering terrorism, where representatives from india and the united states engaged in discussions about information-sharing and capacity building to combat the intricate networks woven by terrorists in contemporary times. The meeting focused on understanding how terrorists leverage the internet and new technologies for planning and financing their activities.

Remarkably, both nations emphadata-sized the need for justice in the cases of the 2008 mumbai attacks and the 2016 Pathankot airbase terror attack, refraining from explicitly naming Pakistan, the alleged source of these attacks. Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistani terrorist organization, was implicated in the 2008 mumbai attacks, while the Pathankot attack was attributed to Jaish-e-Mohammed, another terrorist group based in Pakistan.

This gathering took place as part of the Counterterrorism Joint Working Group meeting in conjunction with the Designations Dialogue, aimed at collaborative efforts to impose sanctions on terrorist entities and individuals in multilateral forums. The meeting, led by KD Deval, Joint Secretary (Counterterrorism) in the Ministry of External Affairs, and Elizabeth Richard, Coordinator of Counterterrorism in the US State Department, marked the 20th iteration of the group established in 2000.

A joint statement issued on wednesday revealed that both nations urged concrete action by the UN Security Council's 1267 Sanctions Committee against various terrorist groups, including Al Qaeda, Islamic State, LeT, and JeM. Information on designating terrorist organizations and individuals was exchanged, emphasizing the commitment to sharing information, enhancing capacity, and sustaining bilateral and multilateral efforts to counter emerging terrorism threats.

The discussions covered issues such as the internet and technology's role in terrorism, international terrorist movements, recruitment, financing, and the challenges of radicalization leading to violence and extremism.
