Telangana - Gram panchayats to take over Mission Bhagiratha village water supply
The government has also charged gram panchayats with activities such as OHSR chlorination and cleaning, new tap connection issuance, and pipeline repair. Estimates for maintenance work undertaken by gram panchayats will be provided by the Mandal intra-village AEE and AE of Mission Bhagirtha, and the Panchayats will carry them out under the supervision of intra-village AEEs or AEs.
The expense will be funded by the Central Finance Commission, the State Finance Commission, or the respective panchayats. According to the ordinance, gram panchayats shall be the custodians of all water supply assets and are responsible for maintaining all asset registries and network maps. Any miscreant activity that causes damage to Mission Bhagiratha's infrastructure will be penalized by the gram panchayat under the policy.
Gramme panchayats shall make the required efforts to provide water delivery to all households clean OHSRs and service reservoirs once every ten days - on the first, eleventh, and twenty-first of each month. The Engineer-in-Chief of Mission Bhagiratha would coordinate the delivery of drinking water with the Commissioner or director of panchayati Raj and Rural Development.
The water supply system in the villages was delegated to the gram panchayats after it was discovered that in many areas, the intra-village water supply was not adequately maintained, and water was not reaching the home level.
