Telangana Hyderabad - TSRTC Launches Men-Exclusive Bus Service

SIBY JEYYA
The telangana Road and Transport services (TSRTC) has introduced a men-only bus service to regulate passenger traffic along a designated route in the city. On Thursday, february 1, the TSRTC began its first "men-exclusive" service on the Ibrahimpatnam-LB nagar route to manage large crowds of young people who take rtc buses to commute to college during peak hours.

A TSRTC official told the india Herald that a single bus service solely for males has been started on the route, which includes major engineering institutes. Currently, one bus connects LB nagar and Ibrahimpatnam. "We created the service specifically to satisfy the needs of engineering college students. The first bus departs at 8:30 a.m. and returns at 4:30 p.m. on the route," the official stated.

The TSRTC established this service in response to an increase in the number of women who use TRSTC buses as a result of the congress government's free bus travel policy.

After entering power on december 7, the congress administration implemented their election promise of free bus travel for women across the state on designated buses via the Mahalaxmi Scheme.

Since the congress administration implemented the Mahalakshmi plan, about 31% more women have used telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) buses to commute in Hyderabad, according to a recent survey conducted by the Helping Hand Foundation, a city-based NGO.

Following the start of the initiative, the percentage of women who utilise TSRTC buses for their daily commute increased from 52% to 81%. The survey included 3,530 women from various health facilities in the city, suggesting that over half of the increase in bus travel was for medical reasons, such as outpatient visits and prenatal care.
