A student in a hostel in Karnataka's Kalaburagi district was paraded half-naked on thursday after reportedly refusing to attend an event commemorating BR Ambedkar arranged by fellow hostel students.
A charge was filed against 15-20 hostel boys who pushed the victim to stroll around town while half-naked. The case was filed under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily inflicting harm), 504 (intentional insult with intent to cause breach of peace), 505(2) (public mischief), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. All of the males engaged in the incident are juveniles, according to the FIR.
The victim declined to attend the 'Ambedkar Puja' held by the hostel students in Kalaburagi. In reaction, at least 15-20 students attacked the victim and paraded him through Kalaburagi's streets, carrying an Ambedkar photograph on his head.
The assailants were apparently outraged because the victim was 'belittling Lord Rama'. It is said that the victim was compelled to recite 'Jai Sri Ram' at a small temple in Humnabad, Bidar district, on january 22, the day of the ram temple consecration in Ayodhya. "They smacked and struck me. They eventually hauled me inside a Hanuman temple and forced me to pay my respects to the god and chant the jai Sri ram mantra. "I had to obey them out of fear," the woman stated in her lawsuit. The victim is from Hunasagera village, Humnabad taluk.
Following the complaint, Humnabad police filed a case on tuesday under the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 2015, and different sections of the indian Penal Code.
