'Kudavolai' Voting System Highlighted in tamil Nadu's Parade!!!

Tamil Nadu showcased the state's rich history on friday at the 75th Republic Day celebration in delhi by showcasing the oldest democratic process from the Chola era in a parade that took place at Kartavya Path. The voting system called 'Kudavolai' (Kuda Olai) was showcased in the tamil Nadu tableau. The 'Kudavolai' system, which dates to the Chola era circa 900 CE, was presented as an ancestor of the constitutional democracy of today.

What does the term "Kudavolai" mean?

Under the 'Kudavolai' system of the ancient Chola monarchy, representatives were chosen by their communities to fill administrative posts. During this procedure, people wrote the names of the candidates they supported on palm leaves, which were subsequently put in a clay pot known as a "kudam." The candidates who had accrued the most leaves were chosen to constitute the village government.

A thriving panchayat system was fostered by the democratic ideas of the Chola administration. The Kudavolai system is mentioned in the Uttaramerur inscriptions as a unique and noteworthy feature of village governance during the Chola era.

Under the subject "India-Mother of Democracy," the indian Election Commission also gave a presentation that represented a number of data-facets of indian democracy. An electronic voting machine (EVM) with an inked finger pushing a button was depicted in the front tableau, signifying inclusivity and citizen empowerment.
