Biting cold and dense fog resumed in delhi and its data-bordering states in North india on Thursday, with the india Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting no relief till january 28.

The meteorological agency forecasted severe to extremely dense fog in delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh for a few hours at night or in the morning on january 28. Dense fog would also persist in isolated areas of northern rajasthan till january 26. Cold to severe cold day conditions would remain in these states and union territories till january 28.

According to the IMD, the national capital has seen five cold days and as many cold wave days in january, which is the most in the last 13 years. At 5:30 a.m., Delhi's main weather observatory, Safdarjung, reported a minimum temperature of 7.2 degrees Celsius, which was 2.8 degrees below average.

The visibility at Safdarjung and Palam was decreased to 50 metres and 25 metres, respectively, owing to dense fog. Various aeroplane and rail operations continue to be disrupted, with footage from indira gandhi International airport showing cars driving with little sight. The delhi airport also issued a fog advisory to passengers on X, advising them to call the airline for "updated flight information" since operations may be disrupted.

Flight operations have been severely hampered this winter due to high fog, with the delhi airport turning into a chaotic scene as customers waited in queue for hours due to delays. Earlier this month, the delhi airport's only operating CAT IIIB (designed to manage poor visibility) runway was closed for a few hours due to intense fog, which reduced visibility to zero.
