Telangana - DCA seizes Rs 7-crore spurious drugs worth since July 2023

Since July 21, 2023, the telangana Pharmaceuticals Control Administration (DCA) has conducted 18 successful operations against illegal pharmacies, seizing bogus and unregistered pharmaceuticals worth more than Rs 7 crore, according to sources. Furthermore, in december and january, the DCA conducted multiple raids on self-proclaimed RMPs and PMPs who were storing and selling narcotics without a legal drug license.

On august 14, DCA officers discovered Physician Samples stocks in balaji Medical and General Stores, Rajendranagar, which led to the discovery of a massive stock of Physician Samples worth Rs 25 lakhs at a godown in Jalpally, Rang reddy district.
On september 1, the DCA searched M/s. health First Medical and General Stores in Warasiguda, Secunderabad, seizing 16 kinds of 'Telangana government Supply Drugs—Not for Sale' worth Rs 2 lakh.
On september 2, the DCA seized 376.2 kg of Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride, worth Rs. 9.6 lakhs, from C. Veera Venkateswara Rao and M. Karna Kumar, partners of M/s. Lead Pharma, Prashanth Nagar, kukatpally Mandal, for unauthorized drug stockpiling.
On october 30, DCA discovered unlicensed manufacturing of the drug 'Tizanidine Hydrochloride' at M/s. sv Labs Pvt. Ltd., Koyyalagudem Village, choutuppal Mandal, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri District, as well as unlicensed stocking of the drug 'Amantadine Hydrochloride' and seized huge stocks of drugs worth Rs. 66 lakhs on november 15, 2023, following receipt of a test report from the drugs Control Laboratory, Hyderabad.
On december 4, the DCA searched an unauthorized godown in Machabollaram and discovered counterfeit anti-cancer medications purporting to be made by a non-existent business, "Astra Generics Pvt. Ltd." The operation resulted in the seizure of stocks worth Rs 4.35 crore.
On december 19, the DCA confiscated 754 100 mL bottles of Codiene Phosphate Syrup (Habit Forming Drug) worth Rs 1.5 lakhs from sharada Medical Stores in Siddiamber Bazar.
On december 22, the DCA searched Aspen Biopharma's unlicensed plant in Annarugudem Village, Tallada Mandal, khammam District, and discovered illicit drug manufacture. The premises included narcotics stocks measuring about 935 kg.
On december 29, the DCA searched many sites in hyderabad and disrupted a counterfeit drug ring including bogus antibiotics, hypertension and cholesterol medications, and analgesics, seizing supplies worth Rs. 26 lakhs.
On january 4, the DCA raided an unauthorized production plant for the narcotic 'Diacerein' at rakshit drugs Pvt. Ltd. in Sangareddy, seizing 236 kg of the substance valued at 50.25 lakhs.
On january 9, the DCA raided a counterfeit 'Mehendi (Henna) Cone' manufacturing factory in Mehdipatnam, Hyderabad. Mehendi (Henna) cones made with the deadly chemical 'Picramic Acid' (adulterated) were recovered during the search.
On january 11, the DCA confiscated a stock of Asmero vial injections valued at 5.88 lakhs from Mancherial.
On january 18, the DCA stormed an unlicensed godown in Amberpet, where it belonged, and confiscated large quantities of medications valued Rs 20.52 lakh.
On january 19, the DCA searched the Iswarya Fertility Centre in malakpet, which operates a pharmacy with a 'fake drug license', seizing large quantities of pharmaceuticals worth Rs. 10 lakhs. During the raid, investigators from the DCA discovered that the Iswarya Fertility Centre in malakpet had generated a counterfeit or manufactured drug license.
