Delhi woke up to another frigid day on wednesday as a layer of early-morning fog persisted over the Indo-Gangetic plains in north India. Although satellite imagery revealed a drop in fog across Bihar, eastern Uttar Pradesh, northern Madhya Pradesh, and delhi, severe fog remained in sections of punjab, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

According to the india Meteorological Department, the lowest temperature at the Safdarjang Observatory was 5.7 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, some trains to delhi were late or cancelled owing to poor visibility. According to PTI, an indian Railways representative stated that 20 trains arriving in delhi were delayed by up to five hours owing to foggy weather.

The delhi airport also reported delays in aircraft operations, impacting roughly 120 flights, (including domestic and international arrivals and departures), owing to strong fog.

At 5.30 a.m., visibility was 25 metres in Patiala, Ambala, and Bareilly, 50 metres in Hisar, Churu, and Bahraich, and 200 metres in lucknow and Purnea.

The visibility at the Palam Observatory, near Delhi's indira gandhi international (IGI) airport, was just 200 metres.

On tuesday, the indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange signal for extremely thick fog and coldwave conditions in delhi on wednesday and Thursday.

On wednesday, it issued a red alert for very dense fog and cold wave conditions in punjab and Haryana, followed by an orange alert for both states on Thursday.

The notice also noted that bad weather conditions were expected to disrupt transportation.

Due to weather conditions, around 30 planes departing from Delhi's indira gandhi international (IGI) airport were delayed on tuesday, with 17 being cancelled.

The lowest temperature on tuesday was 4.8 degrees Celsius.

On tuesday, areas of rajasthan saw coldwave conditions and dense fog.

According to the jaipur weather station, the lowest temperature in the previous 24 hours was 2.9 degrees Celsius in Fatehpur and Karauli, and 3 degrees Celsius in Sangriya.

Sriganganagar had a low of 4.3 degrees Celsius, followed by 4.5 degrees Celsius in Alwar, 5 degrees Celsius in Sikar, 5.1 degrees Celsius in Pilani, and 5.4 degrees Celsius in Churu.

The meteorological department official stated that the weather in rajasthan remained dry, with strong fog in certain areas.

Many areas experienced coldwave conditions, with Sriganganagar experiencing a very cold day.
